Independently Owned and Operated for over 35 years
Established October 1989 by Dr. Arif Iqbal and serving the Greater Houston Area since. Since its establishment, the practice had grown to have multiple satellite and sister locations to help serve more of the Houston community.
In order to grow with the community, we began providing more than just eyeglasses; we offer retinal screening, post-op care, specialty contacts, medical eye exams, management of acute, emergency, and chronic eye conditions.
In April 2025, Dr. Arif Iqbal resigned from being the Director of the practice and Dr. Haseeb Bacchus, former employee of Preferred Eye Care since 2015, assumed the roll.

Comprehensive Eye Exam
The routine, annual exam that checks vision, provides a prescription for glasses (if needed), and examines the overall health of the eye. Comprehensive eye exams are typically covered under your Vision Insurance (often times with a copay).
By default, majority of eye exams fall in this category. If there is a finding requiring urgent attention or something that prevents the comprehensive exam from being complete, your doctor may convert to a Medical Exam.
If you have a known medical condition needing monitoring or treatment, that would fall under a "Medical Eye Exam" for specific and detailed diagnosis and management.

Contact Lens Fitting
A contact lens fitting or prescription is an additional service to the comprehensive eye exam. For a contact lens to be prescribed, it is required the eye health be assessed and the prescription determined (all performed in a comprehensive exam). Even if you are a veteran wearer of contact lenses, this is a service that must be performed annually as well; pursuant of Section 351.435 of the Optometry Act.
Don't know what contact is right for you? Don't know if you can even wear contacts? We have recommendations for everything! There are dozens of different contact lenses available; from daily replacements to monthly reusables and more! Whether the contacts be soft or hard, simple or special, we are here for you! We can even help with medically necessary contacts for individuals with high prescriptions or conditions such as keratoconus. We are always looking out for you. Call or schedule with us today!

Medical Eye Exam
For known or new emergent / urgent conditions possibly needing some form of medical management. This is for specifically assessing, diagnosing, and treating an individual condition; not for prescribing a glasses. Conditions can include:- Red eye / Eye injury
- Stye
- Diabetic eye tests
- Glaucoma
- Macular degeneration
- Flashes / Floaters
- Sudden vision changes/loss
- And more

MEET YOUR OPTOMETRIST
Haseeb Bacchus, O.D.
Dr. Haseeb Bacchus is the new Director of Preferred Eye Care as of April 2025. However, Dr. Bacchus is no stranger to the practice; he joined the practice in early 2014 as a front desk technician while an undergraduate student of Texas A&M University and graduated with his B.S. in Psychology in December 2014. He continued serving as a technician throughout his optometry school and graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2019 and earned his license.
Dr. Bacchus immediately rejoined Preferred Eye Care as an associate doctor and served at the satellite and sister location in Humble and Spring. In 2021, he began practicing in different offices in Houston and expanded on his practice capabilities. He is a licensed glaucoma specialist, has trained with Lasik and cataract surgeons, is experienced with specialty contact lenses, and manages conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and dry eye. His goal for every patient to hopefully teach them something about their eyes so they leave, not only seeing better, but enlightened regarding their ocular status as well. Some things he enjoys most as an optometrist is seeing his patient's face light up when they can see clearly and frame-styling their new glasses (who doesn't like shopping!?)
Opening and operating his own private practice was his goal as a student and in 2024 reached out to his mentor, Dr. Arif Iqbal, founder and owner of Preferred Eye Care since 1989. Dr Iqbal stated that after 35 years of running a practice, he was ready to retire; that and he has a new grandchild he loves spending time with. In April of 2025, the transition occurred and Dr. Bacchus stepped in as the new director. He hopes to add to the practice and expand upon its already vast capabilities.
When not seeing patients, Haseeb is spending time with his family; he has a son born in '22 and daughter in '23. His hobbies are cooking and baking, fitness/exercise, travel, and catching up on TV/movies. He also enjoys games (video and tabletop) and trying new foods and cuisines.
