COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAM

What is it?

A comprehensive eye exam, or routine eye exam, is similar to your annual physical. It is a thorough examination of your eyes and vision to determine if there is anything abnormal or if there is a need for corrective lenses (i.e. glasses, contacts, etc.) If a prescription for glasses is needed, it is will be provided to you.

Similar again to your annual physical, a comprehensive eye exam should be performed once a year, even if you do not feel or notice anything different about your eyes.

But I feel fine...

Eye exams are an important part of preventive health care. We may feel fine, but a majority of ocular diseases, if not all of them, are asymptomatic in their early stages. If we wait until we notice an issue to have it checked, often times there is permanent damage, or vision loss, and it become harder to preserve the eye health. Better to catch something early and fix it before it grows into a larger (and very expensive) un-fixable problem.

Person wearing glasses shrugging i dont know
  • An in-depth check of the eye health and vision
    • Nerve innervations
    • Vision
    • External evaluation
    • Internal evaluation (with dilation if necessary)
  • A review of the findings
  • A treatment plan based on findings (if necessary)
  • Provision of a glasses prescription
  • A pair of glasses
  • A contact lens prescription
  • Diagnosis of abnormal findings
  • Medical testing of known conditions
  • Treatment of known medical conditions

Abnormal findings will require more in-depth testing for accurate diagnosis and management. If you have a known condition (diabetic retinopathy, dry eye, glaucoma, etc.) requiring management, that will be performed as a Medical Eye Exam.
